Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) has donated a multi purpose van to the Sisters of the Infant Jesus Convent (IJC), a retirement home located in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Ramon V. Navaratnam, Trustee of JCF, handed over the van’s key to Sister Rosalind Tan, The Lady Superior of the Society of St Maur at IJC. Also present were retired Sisters of the Convent and a few representatives of the Sunway Group.
Sunway has also pledged to undertake the maintenance of the vehicle, a Proton Exora MPV. The contribution is in line with the Foundation’s commitment to giving
to society. Tan Sri Navaratnam also expressed gratitude to the Sisters for having dedicated their lives to educating the minds of Malaysian youth, a mission shared by the Foundation.
Last year, the IJC Cheras was refurbished to cater to the needs of its residents, more than 30 Sisters in their 70s, 80s and even 90s, who often require the use of wheel chairs and walking aids. This year, the IJC Cheras found that they were in need of a vehicle to help transport the Sisters and their caregivers to hospitals to receive their treatments and reached out to the Foundation who generously donated a van for their use.
“When we came to hear of the predicament that the members of IJC Cheras was facing, we knew we could offer some assistance. This donation, through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, is an act of gratitude towards the Sisters, to thank them for the dedication and commitment they have made towards educating and enriching the lives of our youths. They have truly made a difference to society at large as well as to the many individual lives they have touched,” adds Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, AO, Founding Trustee of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation.
“Over the years, we have produced students of integrity and dedication, people who have taken on responsibilities whether in their homes as good mothers and wives or at their place of work. We are indeed glad that both Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah and Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam share the same passion about education for the young, “says Sr. Rosalind.
